Pepper Soup

Pepper soup is one of the national dishes in Liberia. I enjoyed a bowl during my first trip here, and I still remember how good it was.

Just two weeks ago Janet graduated from a culinary school she has been attending, so when she heard that I was not feeling well and was spending the day in bed, she came to the office saying she wanted to make me pepper soup. And so she did.

It was delicious! Even the more so since it was the first thing I had eaten in a day and half. My digestive illness was gone after that, and I'm convinced Janet's soup played a part in my recovery. Thanks Janet!

Janet also made fufu, which she added to the soup before she, Thomas, Daniel, and Freena ate it together. I told her that I didn't want to eat anything starchy or heavy until I recovered, so I had mine with just the spicy, peppery broth and fish of the soup alone.

The Evening Crew

The only Jetro member from the original Summer 2022 MCSS computer class that is not in the picture I took at the first Jetro business meeting I attended here this trip is Mulbah, who hasn't been coming to our daily sprint meetings either. Last week I found out why.

Mulbah has a paid internship with a start-up tech company here named Kwagei, where he works full time in at the Kwagei office Monday to Friday. He is currently working on a project using the Frappe JavaScript framework.

Mulbah stopped by several evenings last week, when only the core dev team, Thomas and Jallah, and Jetro business manager Daniel remained in the office.

Kwagei is a kpelle word that Mulbah tells me means "we do", and the tech start-up uses the saying "they talk, we do" in their marketing.

It is great that Thomas and the other Jetro devs will be able to share experiences with him, which will be an important growth experience for them. I'm sure Kwagei intends to keep Mulbah, but hopefully both businesses can learn from each other. Mulbah said that Kwagei started almost 10 years ago in circumstances very similar to those Jetro is dealing with now.
